For anyone who thought the Oscar-winning documentaryMarch of the Penguinswas the most marvelous cinematic moment for these nomads of the south, you haven't seen nothing yet. Here's an animated wonder about a penguin named Mumble who can't sing, but can dance up a storm. George Miller, the driving force behind theBabe(andMad Max) movies, takes another creative step in family entertainment with this big, beautiful, music-fueled film that will have kids and their parents dancing in the streets. From his first moment alive, Mumble (voiced Elijah Woods) feels the beat and can't stop dancing. Unfortunatly, emperor penguins are all about finding their own heart song, and dancing youngster--as cute as he is--is a misfit. Luckily, he bumps into little blue penguins, a Spanish-infused group (led by Robin Williams) and begins a series of adventures. Miller has an exceptional variety of entertainment, Busby Berkley musical numbers, amusement park thrills, exciting chase sequences (seals and orca lovers might like think otherwise), and even an environmental message that doesn't weigh you down. Best of all, you don't know where the movie is going in the last act, a rare occurrence these days in family entrainment. A fusion of rock songs, mashed up and otherwise are featured; this movie is as much a musical as a comedy. Mumble's solo dance to a new version of Stevie Wonder's "I Wish" by Fantasia, Patti and Yolanda may be the most joyful moment on camera in 2006.--Doug Thomas
Happy Feet, Cute&Fuzzy but Not for Kids This was the first movie I took my four year old to. Needles to say I was very disappointed. This movie is ideological indoctrination of the worst, most extreme kind. Cant we spare our kids this?
Unfortunately the penguin is ostracized by his community because he is different, (he cant sing). He leaves his community to be accepted by another group of penguins, who are like him, (they can dance). The main character, a cute fuzzy penguin, has no real admirable qualities or values, and he individually achieves nothing. Simply, one collective or culture is superior to another. This is brought to a painful finale when the singing penguins are forced to convert, that is dance, or die. This is not a kids theme. Parents please view first
Just Enjoy The Movie....It's Entertainment This is a great take on Penguins with talent. The animation is beautiful and the story is funny. Yeah some real life subjects are the under current in this movie but just let the kids enjoy it. Great movie with memorable characters.its not that serious This movie was extremely funny!!. There were a lot of adult humor, but they do that in a lot of movies so the adults dont get bored watchin it. I think that the whole propaganda is a stretch too far. The thing with the aliens (humans) was a good part of the plot. THe other penguins thought because he was different he was causing the food to go away. I think that people take these movies a little bit too seriously, its just a movie. And i think this was a great cartoon movie/comedy. And the tapping was amazing!!!!!!!!
