A spirited ensemble cast keeps things cooking inEulogy, a black comedy about a gathering of the dysfunctional Collins family following the death of its prickly patriarch (Rip Torn). Zooey Deschanel plays granddaughter Kate, struggling to fulfill the old man's last wish that she write his eulogy. Meanwhile, her dad (Hank Azaria), a has-been actor, smokes pot in the dark and referees battles between his seamy brother Skip (Ray Romano), lesbian sister Lucy (Kelly Preston) and her lover Judy (Famke Janssen), caustic sibling Alice (Debra Winger), and suicidal mother Charlotte (Piper Laurie). Confused about her loyalties, poor Kate alternately runs to and from best friend Ryan (Jesse Bradford), who wants to become her lover, while Alice--super-critical of Lucy's sexuality--fails to keep secret her own fling with a nurse (Glenne Headly).Eulogynever quite reaches full boil, but there are many funny moments, and Deschanel, Romano, and Preston are particularly watchable.--Tom Keogh
By: NewEnglandGOP Cast of stars, yet no stars in the cast. The movie employed terrible acting jobs from people that you would expect MUCH MUCH more from. Movie had limited laughs and probably one hell of a budget. Famke Jannsen and Kelly Preston gave the only good acting jobs, and as bad as this movie was reviewed, it should\'ve been worse.
Zooey Deschanel has to come up with a "Eulogy" in Eulogy Rip Torn (Rolling Kansas, Men In Black 1&2) kicks the bucket and the whole family gets together for his funeral and to see who gets what in the will. The family includes his wife played by Piper Laurie (Carrie, The Faculty) who tries to kill herself by jumping out of the car but lands on grass. There's Aunt Debra Winger (Terms of Endearment, Forget Paris) who has a silent family and she also likes women. There's Aunt Kelly Preston (Jerry Maguire, Sky High) who is a lesbian and she brings her lover Famke Janssen (GoldenEye, X-Men 1-3) along with her. There's Uncle Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond, Welcome to Mooseport) who brings his twins with him and then there's Uncle Hank Azaria (The Simpsons, America's Sweethearts) who brings the Granddaughter, played by the talented and attractivly cute as hell Zooey Deschanel (Almost Famous, All The Real Girls) Deschanel is the one who is supposed to come up with the "Eulogy" hence the title. Comedy is extremely funny with great dialouge. Only thing about it is that Debra Winger is miscast. One of the best pieces of dialouge would be when Ray Romano tells everyone that when he dies he wants to be creamated and mixed in with the stuff that prints money, so when they mix his ashes in with the ink and print them on dollars, he'll be everywhere...great stuff. Also starring Jesse Bradford (Swimfan, Hackers), Glenne Headly (Mortal Thoughts), Vincent Castellano (Anaconda, Mulholland Dr.), Rance Howard (Cinderella Man, Happy Texas), Rene Auberjonois (Boston Legal), Paget Brewster (Lets Talk About Sex, Harvey Birdman), Mark Harelik (Election) and Brian Posehn (Devil's Rejects, Run Ronnie Ron).Possible the funniest Comedy Movie this decade It has only one competitor so far "Air America".. But Air America cannot stand repeat viewing... I can watch this movie every 4 months and still be in stitches...... This is definately a "Mans" comedy... Women will not find it as funny as most men!!!
But in my opinion it still remains the funniest comedy of the first decade of the new millenium.
PS Why doesnt Amazon have a spell checker and different fonts/size fonts???tragically underrated So funny, so dark.
