Tracks NYC Weather Report The Devil in the Wishing Well If God Made You 100 Years Angels&Girlfriends Dying Infidel Disneyland Maybe I The Taste One More For Love Nobody
Math wiz and multi-instrumentalist John Ondrasik's third album under his rather misleading Five For Fighting rubric shows that he's lost little of the cranky ire that he unleashed onAmerican Town, but this time his targets are a little closer to home. He skews faithless friends and bad habits on the tetchy opening track "NYC Weather report," oddly borrowing from both Guns N' Rose's "Paradise City," and Barbara Streisand's "People" to hammer his ornery point home, before training his sights on the human life span, fleeting relationships, and even Disneyland. But it isn't until "Girlfriends and Angels," that he shows his real brilliance, imagination and grit; Ondrasik finds the exact place where the Beach Boys intersects with the Velvet Underground and plants himself in that spot, spewing out his own hard won romantic philosophies, proving once again that the hunter does indeed get captured by the game. More ribald, sonically inventive, and lyrically edgy,The Battle For Everything, shows that Ondrasik's combative days may be behind him.--Jaan Uhelszki
Great Album This is good stuff lol. I love five for fighting. I love alternitive music (hope i spelled that right lol). I love 100 years and If god made you. Great job five for fighting. YE-AH! lol.
An amazing album This is an extraordinary album with very good instruments. The way this guy combines his voice with the piano is unbelievable. It's a really heart warming album that puts a smile on your face and sometimes brings out tears of joy. If you like coldplay and travis, this is an album you will appreciate. Watch out for: 100 years,Nobody,Disneyland,Devil in the wishing wellAmazing album There seems to be two groups of reviewers with regard to FFF, the 5-star gang who love John Ondrasik's musical versatility, opera-trained voice, and whimsical songwriting, and those who disparage the album for 'only having one good song' or Ondrasik for having too high a voice or writing lyrics that don't always make sense.
Count me among the former group. This was the first FFF album I purchased (I later received America Town as a gift), and it really grew on me over time. Ondrasik's musicianship on this album is impressive. 100 Years, the song everyone heard before buying BFE, is an amazing piano ballad. NYC Weather Report, If God Made You, The Devil in the Wishing Well, Disneyland, Dying, and Nobody were also strong tracks. As always, his songwriting is superb (Nobody and The Devil in the Wishing Well stand out). The album is, more than anything else, lovely to listen to, and Ondrasik's voice is a high point, especially on songs like 100 Years. Don't be afraid to give this album a chance.
