In his home state, San Antonio-born, Waco-raised Pat Green fills arenas and has the status of musical legend. Judging fromWave on Wave, his second major label release, he'll soon be making waves elsewhere, too. Green has an edgy, scuffed-up voice with passing similarity to Robert Earl Keen. Yet Green's originals like "Wrapped" and the haunting title tune are more often tinged with tender issues of the heart and soul rather than dark irony. Even on chugging, world-weary Texas-flavored heartland rockers like "I'm Tired" and "All the Good Things Fade Away," the tow-headed singer's winning affability and optimism glimmer faintly through the despairing lyrics.--Bob Allen
Texas Sized Disappointment Pat Green had been one of my favorite artists untill now. I hope he stays in California, he belongs out there. For anyone wanting Texas music, try his earlier cd's. Way to keep it Texas Pat.
Not His Best Effort--Should Stick with What Works. While I will not be as harsh as some of the fans that did not like this album, I cannot agree that Pat Green really grew artistically on this album. He may have taken a step back in an attempt to expand his audience. Regardless of the comparison's made to Mike and the Mechanics, I like Wave on Wave (which makes sense if you believe the comparisons, because I also like Mike and the Mechanics). I purchased the album on the strength of Wave on Wave and on recommendations from a Texas friend that really enjoys Pat Green's music. I was a little disappointed. Out of the 13 songs on the record I only really enjoyed three. Wave on Wave, of course was the first. Then I liked All the Good Things Fade Away, which to me was a bit of the Grateful Dead meets Charlie Daniels, but hey I like hearing it. Finally Run is a nice mellow song to listen to. Pat Green has a strong voice that is clear and easy to listen too. I just think that his other albums were of better quality. I won't get rid of this album, I am just not sure that I'll reach for it often.ripped off I know i'm not the only one who noticed that "wave on wave" is a blatantly obvious ripoff of Mike and the Mechanics' "In the Living Years". I dare you to say otherwise. There are forums all over the internet with posts from really pissed off fans like myself. Even if you're not musically inclined, the similarity is striking. Even my mom picked up on it when it played on the local country station. Bottom line is: Green is marginally talented, but that is overshadowed by his total lack of artistic integrity. I am surprised that there has not been a bigger backlash regarding the song. Oh and a word of caution regarding the rest of this so called, er..., critically acclaimed album: I'd venture to say that the lyrics are pulled straight out of a confused teenager's journal. If rambling, nonsensical musings about broken hearts and redemption are what you're after, then Pat Green is your guy. Utterly disgraceful.
