This four-part 1994 OAV spawned several follow-ups, and writer Chiaka Konaka went on to do screenplays forBubblegum Crisis 2040andSerial Experiments Lain.Armitage IIIis noted for its brooding, dystopicBlade Runner-influenced backgrounds--which are more interesting than its characters. Terran police officer Ross Sylibus arrives on Mars and finds himself drawn into a complex plot involving seemingly random bombings and the murders of women who are actually "Thirds," or state-of-the-art androids. (Their circuitry is so sophisticated, they can be impregnated by human males.) Sylibus's partner is Naomi Armitage, a sharp-shooting, hard-punching Third, whose scanty costumes suggest a '50s burlesque show. Together, they battle a standard array of addled scientists, sinister corporations, screeching maniacs, and corrupt police officers. Fast paced and violent, this influential adventure is not for the squeamish. Armitage is badass!! For a while, I gave up on anime after the genre was overtaken by Adult Swim s*** like FLCL, InuYasha, and Samurai Deeper Kyo (all of which suck abysmally), but I saw the Armitage OAV series and my faith in anime was restored.
Back to this series, while many believe it was Ghost in the Shell that started this "cyberpunk" anime, it was Armitage that started it (don't get me wrong, GITS still rules). Armitage has everything you'd want in an anime: blood, guts, high-tech stuff, and nudity. A celebrity is murdered but she's a highly sophisticated robot that can pass as a human. Ross Sylibus and his hot partner, Armitage, investigate this government sponsored murder of "third type" robots. Armitage takes no prisoners or s*** from her enemies, which I find awesome, and the fact that Ross is from Chicago makes me happy since I live so close to the place (Chicago rules). Plenty of action awaits for you in this series. As opposed to this wave of "nu-anime," you actually feel for the characters in certain situations and you'll want to watch this again and again. If you're a fan of old-school anime such as Akira and Ninja Scroll, you'd love this.
If you're smart and like good anime, click "Yes." If you're another braindead DDR "Otaku" who loves FLCL, click "No."
Blade Runner Anime Style Armitage III does owe much to the 1982 live action film.It is difficult to conceive that it would have been made with-out Mr Ridly Scott's master piece's influence. The same basic story line runs through the both creations; Cop chasing down rogue androids, falls in love with android and both attempt to define what makes them human. This said Armitage III has a feel all of its own, with very suble images and subtexts throughout the story to a almost dream-like climax. In my opinion it would be best to view the anime in the original japanese as, I hasten to add no fault of the translators, a very important subplot is lost in the english dub. A very essential anime to have in any collection. It's just like "Ghost in the Shell" This is an anime set on Mars about cyborg who is searching for the reason of her conception. She is joined by former Earth detective, Ross Syllabus, in her search for her "father".
Naomi Armitage is an illegal "third type" android-the most human-like robot ever. Armitage creator is Dr. Asakura, who she calls "father".
