To anyone whotrulyunderstands what it means to be an American, Michael Moore'sFahrenheit 9/11should be seen as a triumph of patriotic freedom. Rarely has the First Amendment been exercised with such fervor and forthrightness of purpose: After subjecting himself to charges of factual errors in his gun-lobby exposéBowling for Columbine, Moore armed himself with a platoon of reputable fact-checkers, an abundance of indisputable film and video footage, and his own ironically comedic sense of righteous indignation, with the singular intention of toppling the war-ravaged administration of President George W. Bush. It's the Bush presidency that Moore, with his provocative array of facts and figures, blames for corporate corruption, senseless death, unnecessary war, and political favoritism toward Osama Bin Laden's family and Saudi oil partners following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Moore's incendiary film earned Palme d'Or honors at Cannes and a predictable legion of detractors, but do yourself a favor: Ignore those who condemn the film without seeing it, and let the facts speak for themselves. By honoring American soldiers and the victims of 9/11 while condemning Bush's rationale for war in Iraq,Fahrenheit 9/11may actually succeed in turning the tides of history.--Jeff Shannon
Overall good movie While I understand that Michael Moore had a skewed agenda in producing this movie, I think a lot of what he has portrayed cannot be ignored.
The truth is that George W Bush is just as corrupt a politician as most in WA. He can hide behind "God" all he wants but if Jesus came back, he'd be one of the first ones to be thrown out of the temple.
To think that we as a country are not driven by power and gain is ridiculous. Of course Bush shelters the Saudi's just like almost every other president has done because we are not in the business to care about freedom unless there is profit to be gained. We don't invade other countries unless we can get something back for it. We don't invest in other countries unless it benefits us.
We have no problem giving weapons to monsters, to use them for our cause, even though time and time again those monsters turn those weapons back on us at a later date.
We barely fought a war on terroism because of Bush and his Iraq agenda. People dont like to be lied to and that is where Bush made a mistake. They concocted a story to get us to back them when the rest of the world wouldn't even back Bush. I think that if American people truly knew the reasons, agendas, and politcally motivated decision making that takes place in WA everyday, we probably couldn't even handle it. If we knew the depths of the lies, we couldn't even process it. It's much easier to trust in our government then to comprehend it's weaknesses.
I would never ever enroll in the military. I think the govenment is disrespectful of these men and woman who put their life on the line every day for us. When things go bad over there and our children come home injured beyond repair from chemical warfare etc., our government pretends it didn't happen. And if you are not a lifer, forget getting help assimilating back into society after you've killed and had to watch war atrocities. You're on your own and good luck finding a decent job when all you've been trained to do is fire artillery. We as a country fail these miliary personnel every day.
So, if it takes a Michael Moore to throw things in our faces to make us want to find out the truth or pay attention to what our pitiful government is concocting, then so be it. Power to the people.
Like Him or Not ; a Brave Man with Conviction I am a fan of Michael Moore and his documentaries. His hilarious, though often disturbing, television series 'The Awful Truth' made quite an impact here as did his previous feature 'Bowling for Columbine'. I can see why a lot of Americans would loath him, no-one likes to see their own country so relentlessly scrutinized or criticised. But the fact or 'awful truth' is I'm afraid to say, that is how much of the world sees America, certainly a lot Australians I can tell you (and we are an alli). The 'superpower' that is the U.S of A is generally viewed as an arrogant nation, often naive and uneducated in the way it blindly swallows the patronizing and self-righteous propaganda its government dishes out. The role of film makers and commentators like Moore is to, as we Australians say 'keep the bastards honest'. To inform the public about what the government, as well as greedy mega-corporations, get up to and to not let them get away with their hypocritical, careless war mongering and often crimminal activities without a fight. 'Moore' is not anti- American or anti anything or anyone in particular. His agenda is to research and report social and political issues as he sees it and infact I believe he must really love his country (country does not mean 'government policies'), to dedicate so much passion and life energy into trying to make it a better and safer place. They are his own opinions yes. Often backed up by impressive research and statistics (just how accurate of course we can't be sure) and if you don't mindlessly swallow everything he says or claims then that is smart too. But if he and so many others didn't honestly believe in what he was doing and the points he was making, then he wouldn't be so courageously sticking his neck out the way he does. He's a brave man that's for sure. Farenheit 9/11 is a powerful and extremely controversial polemic. Often dryly satirical and humorous in typical mocking sarcastically tongue in cheek 'Moore style', like The book 'Stupid White Man' it continues to do very little for George W Bush and his administration's credibility, trust-ability and suitability in leading the American people. Like him or loath him 'Moore' is passionate about his causes and life's mission to challenge injustice and oppressive, fascist government, media and corporate policies and practices. Farenheit 9/11 did not disappoint. I think it's the kind of film you have to see more than once however, to really take it what's been said. Exploitation of tragedy and about as factually accurate as a Nazi propaganda tape This film was nothing more than a stupid attempt to influence the last election and a sad shameless cash in on the 9-11 tragedy and the war in Iraq. And yes I have seen the film because I had to watch it last year as part of a class. The attempts at humor are not funny and in bad taste as well. I didn't laugh at any one of those stupid attempts at a joke. The most disgusting thing though was when Micheal Moore used the images of a mother crying over her son who was killed in Iraq to make a political statement. He also edited footage that contradicted him. Go watch "Farrenhype 9/11" if you don't believe me. And the mother who was exploited in this film even criticized Moore for his potrayal of her son and her. Mr.Moore represents everything that is wrong with the American left these days. Hopefully though, he'll continue his stupid attempts because he only succeeds in making every left-minded person look bad. Guess who he's going to exploit next in his new movie "Sicko"? The mentally handicapped! Wait to go Mike! Your gonna profit off of someone else's suffering as well. Michael Moore is a propagandist, not a documentary film maker. He's the kind of person who could make Hitler look like a saint. Avoid this crockumentary at all costs along with all of his previous films.
