Tracks Free Fallin' I Won't Back Down Love Is a Long Road Face in the Crowd Runnin' Down a Dream I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better Yer So Bad Depending on You Apartment Song Alright for Now Mind With a Heart of Its Own Zombie Zoo
Ten years had passed since Petty's last solid outing (Damn the Torpedoesin 1979), andFull Moon Feverfully resuscitated the artist's career, which--some would say "arguably"--had been losing steam. With the album's four major hits and rave reviews from the critics (these things do not always go hand-in-hand), Petty must have breathed a sigh of relief. He left the Heartbreakers behind, hooked up with musician, writer, and producer Jeff Lynne, and rocked out with "Runnin' Down a Dream," got mellow and introspective on "Free Fallin'" and "A Face in the Crowd," and paid tribute (finally) to the Byrds with a cover of "Feel a Whole Lot Better." He perfected the sing-along guitar-pop song on "Yer So Bad" and had a wild time on "Zombie Zoo." Pure Petty perfection!--Lorry Fleming
An all-time Rock and Roll Great! If you like good rock n roll that has more than just a pounding drum then welcome home. Tom Petty has never gotten the recognition he deserves, at least in my opinion. If you had to pick one albumn by any artist to demonstrate all that is good and fun with Rock music Full Moon Fever would be worthy of that. Fifteen years later I still pull this out frequently and listen to every song. Time defines a classic and this sounds as good today as it did fifteen years ago.
Tom Petty's First Solo Album Is Great FULL MOON FEVER is Tom Petty's first solo album- and it's great! Granted, "Free Fallin'" is a bit overplayed, but there are many other wonderful songs here. "I Won't Back Down" is a statement of determination to stand up for one's beliefs and not take any crap from anyone; "Love Is A Long Road" is about what romance means for adults, which is that nothing is perfect all the time; "A Face In The Crowd" describes the feeling of not quite fitting in; and "I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better" is a great Byrds cover. The fact that Petty advocates sanctions against Indonesia in retaliation for that country's trumped-up drug-smuggling conviction against a young Australian tourist proves that he's a great human being as well as a great artist, yet another reason to own FULL MOON FEVER in any format.Great Album Tom Petty's first solo album is a masterpiece. With the legendary Jeff Lynne providing the essentials on and behind the record and Tom singing his heart out and in conjunction with Mr Lynne writing some fantastic guitar tunes. You get a real sense of passion from playing this album and it certainly has the looseness and feel of the Traveling Wilbury's Vol 1, another Jeff Lynne production. There's a real variety of musical styles featured here, so much so that you can't really pin it down to any particular era or sound. The thing which is constant is the great production, the great showmanship and musicianship along withthe great hooks in the tunes which intrigue the listener and make him look for more. Every track on this album is a gem from Free Fallin, I Won't Back Down to Face In The Crowd, Runnin Down A Dream or the bopping Zombie Zoo you won't be disappointed. Essential listening.
