A Must for my family Aesop's Fables are my go-to stories for helping kids endure long or unexpected waits -- gas stations, restaurants, tire rotations... knowing the fables is a powerful Mommy tool.
This is another great Aesop's fable book (Tom Lynch's is still my favorite) -- this one has about 60 fables and gives you enough ammo to get through a whole morning worth of errands. Many of the illustrations are just tiny postage stamps but the visuals are excellent no matter what the size. Plant these stories in your kids -- they will enjoy them.
I also recommend Jerry Pinkney's wordless "The Lion and the Mouse."
Aesops fables Purchased book for my grandchild. The fables remain the same over the years, but the illustrations are what caught my eye when making this purchase. They're warm, friendly and inviting to a child and adult. The illustrations always make the book more inviting to read. They of course help relate the story and I'm more than pleased with this book.Nice book - good photos Am pleased with this book. Wanted Aseops with bright pictures so my new Grandson would love them as much as I.An Excellent Aesop for Younger Readers and Listeners Every child should read Aesop at some point, not only because of the time-honored wisdom contained in the stories, but also because knowing Aesop gives a cultural literacy that will bring great pleasure. Many of Aesop's morals have become proverbs whose original meaning is not remembered. When these privileged readers hear someone mention sour grapes, or they are admonished not to count their chickens before they're hatched, they will know exactly what is meant.
This gorgeously illustrated version makes the ancient genre of morality tales accessible to young listeners. The collection includes 52 fables (about a quarter of the corpus attributed to Aesop), including most of the better-known stories -- the tortoise and the hare, the boy who cried wolf, Androcles and the lion, and the stork and the crane -- as well as some lesser-known ones. Pinkney's mesmerizing watercolor paintings will hold attention long enough for the well-written text to be read aloud, and the traditional pithy moral will help anchor it in the memory. A child who has experienced this book ought to be delighted to encounter a broader Aesop collection later (although they will always remember the pictures that accompanied their first Aesop experience). If you must choose only one Aesop collection, choose one with more stories, but if you can afford a version for the younger set, this is an excellent choice.Best of all Best pictures, best stories, best-phrased conclusion of all the children's fable books out there. Each book has its own take on the story & the concluding moral. This one is clear, concise, fun, up-to-date, and also beautiful.
