Okay, so the cover is a little hokey, but it's what's inside that counts, right? Well, Silver RavenWolf has stuffedTeen Witch with enough basic material on Wicca to give anyone a good start to understanding the craft. As the title implies, this book is geared for teens, addressing the truths and myths about witchcraft in light of the issues that teens face, from school to parents to peer pressure. Precocious readers may feel that RavenWolf is talking down to them at times, but keep in mind that this book addresses a broad age group, and Mama Silver (as she is often called) does an admirable job of presenting this information in a manner to which younger readers can relate, while still meeting the needs of the high-school senior.Teen Witch may not be the ultimate "How to be a Witch" guide, and anyone who thinks RavenWolf is trying to write one has missed her whole point. No single book could stake a valid claim to that title.
WhatTeen Witch offers is an easy-to-grasp introduction to the Craft that answers the basic questions about what being a witch is really all about, and RavenWolf provides a long list of follow-up material for anyone who feels that witchcraft might be the path he or she wants to follow. Writing a book for teenagers about any religion is a tricky prospect, but Mama Silver tackles the problem of discussing an ancient path that has suffered a long history of persecution and negative stereotypes in a way that doesn't step on anyone's toes and shouldn't offend the religious sensibilities of anyone with a mind open to the truth.--Brian Patterson

I picked up the craft when I was 14. At that time there were no \"Teen\" books in the stores for Wicca. That didn\'t stop me from learing some good lessons from some good Wiccan writers. I\'ve read a lot of Silver Ravenwolf\'s books and she talks down to everyone and brakes her own rules! I\'ve avoided her teen books like the plage. If you want a good first book \"teen\" or not try \"Wicca: a gide for the solitary practioner\" by Scott Cunningham or \"The Witches Bible\". Don\'t pick up a religion without doing some good pre-reading. Best of luck.
Uhm, excuse me? Okay, first of all Id like to say that I have read a few of Ravenwolfs books and they arent bad. I like her style and she also shares some valuable information. However, Teen Witch is not one that I would reccomend to any of my friends. While it is a good sized book full of spells and other information about Wicca, it was a waste of my money. For someone who is so knowlegable about Wicca, she sure uses alot of names in her spells, making them unethical according to Wiccan rules and basic common sense. When she talks about the Ordains and says Teen Speak after each one, that makes me think..Since youre too stupid to understand me, Ill explain it to you! She also basically says that Teens cannot have real covens because theyre just teens. Oh, and the titles of her spells suggests to me that she is really trying too hard to make this thing targeted towards teens, using words like Jiffy and Rock n Roll. Its cute and fluffy but leaves me questioning her ethics. Silver Ravenwolf is a great adult author. I think she should stick to her own age group.good first book "Teen Witch" by Silver Ravenwolf is a good first book for anyone not just teens. It explains the religion and covers the basics better than some other Wiccan books. This book is good to help you understand and decide if you are interested in Wicca or not. Ravenwolf makes the book out to be enough to practice the religion but to properly practice the religion in full further reading is required. If you plan on being a solitary witch Scott Cunningham is a good author for that purpose. "Teen Witch" does not cover the tools like athames (A double edged knife used to cast a circle) and bollines (A single edged knife used to cut herbs) instead it makes the assumption that you cannot use them and gives no information on them. This book is good for explaining the earth spirituality aspect of Wicca and the basic on most rituals but does not go into enough detail on most things. I do however recommend this book to all beginners to help you understand what is to come.negative 5 stars please do not buy this junk. This is a far cry from wicca. This is watered down junk also known as neo-paganism. Looking for books on magic(k) can be confusing, its hard to know who knows what they're talking about. Instead I reccomend any thing by scott cunningham.
