No Time To Cry No Time to Cry, Lurlene Mc Daniel, 0-553-57079
"Deep down, inside the deepest part of her heart, in spite of all the encouraging lab reports from her doctors, she wasn't a hundred percent sure she could call herself a survivor and a winner. With the ongoing tests and medications and the possibility of a relapse, she simply wasn't sure." Dawn Rochelle has leukemia since she was in fifth grade. Her two best friends who also had cancer didn't survive. She keeps on hoping that she will be cured some day and live a "normal" life. Dawn had moved away and now goes to a new school., where no one really knows about her having leukemia. Except Rhonda who's is now her friend. One day when Dawn was walking to school, one of her guy friends Jake followed her in a car. And they haven't seen each other in years. And Jake is somewhat cute, so the popular girl Sharon tries to get his attention. Well sure she gets his attention and goes to the dance with him but does her really like her? Adding on to that, one of Dawn's friends who died has a brother, Bret who worked at cancer camp. Bret who is also a good friend of Dawns wants to visit her for Christmas. OF course Dawn says he could stay for a few days because she likes him but she also likes Jake. So which one will she choose, Jake or Bret? The genre of this book is realistic fiction.
I think this book was a page turner, because it always left you somewhere where she has to make a decision, or where you know something exciting is going to happen. An example of a cliffhanger at the end of the chapter is; "What bad news?" Dawn's heart pounded and a queasy sensation filled her stomach. I would recommend this book because I think people will enjoy it as much as I did. The person who would love this book the most is someone who likes reading about teenage problems. Because the whole book is about a teenage girl who has to make a difficult decisions in her life.
The Most Wonderful Book Ever This book is a heart-warming story about a young girl at the age of 16, who has had cancer recently and has lost two friends to cancer. But, when she runs into an old friend does she feel more than just a friendship around him? No Time To Cry No Time To Cry is a wonderful book. It is about a girl named Dawn Rochelle. Dawn is almost 16 and is a sophomore in high school. She attends Hardy High with her best friend Rhonda. Dawn had cancer, leukemia, and she is now trying to leave that behind her and go on with a normal life like an ordinary high school student. As Dawn tries to leave the past behind, she constantly is reminded of her past:chemotherapy,a bone marrow transplant, and the death of her best friend Sandy. Her time at Hardy High is very intresting. Her fifth grade crush,Jake, comes back and she starts to like him again yet she likes Sandy's brother Brent which she met at summer camp. Brent is in college so she doesn't really think that he likes her but he does. Katie,Rob's girlfriend, thinks that Dawn should attend the monthly meetings at the hospital for cancer survivors but Dawn doesn't want to because she just wants to forget about cancer. Dawn is mixed up with all the emotions and doesn't know quit how to handle them. She takes it out on others when they just want to help but to her they are just bringing back memories. This is one of the best books I have ever read. I think that everybody can relate to this book simply because everybody has bad memories or things they just want to forget about. Some may have had cancer or have a family member or close friend that has had cancer and may somehow be able to relate to the things that Dawn is going through. I encourage all girls to read this book. I enjoy all the Dawn Rochelle novels and I think that most girls will too.
