I loved this book - should be 4.5 I am one of those avid readers that LOVE to read romance novels and because I read so frequently I don't become passionate about many novels but this one was special because I believe the authors has so much promise in her debut that I had to share my opinion.
This novel is about a virgin librarian and a nightwalker Demon. Ok the premise is not very original and reminded me a great deal of Christine Freehan but the book and characters had me from the first and I didn't set the book down until I was done. Isabella, yes she was a virgin librarian but that was not her entire character, in fact the author spent very little time emphasizing that portion of her life. Isabella was a smart, independant and fiesty woman - someone I could like. Jacob was very driven and focused but fell totally in love with "Bella" from the first. The author introduced characters into her story that I cared about and I guess most essential to the book industry, would actually pay for a new novel to read. Obviously the book was about Jacob and Bella but the secondary family that was introduced was caring, the woman in the story were complex with strengths and weaknesses but likable and the men were not overly alpha but strong and manly enough to demand thier own story:-)
Overall I am looking forward to the novel "Gideon" and hope this is a first of many great books from Jacquelyn Frank.
GREAT NEW SERIES AND AUTHOR I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THE STORY FROM THE FIRST PAGE UNTIL THE LAST. THE ROMANCE WAS TENDER. THE CHARACTERS WERE REAL. I ENJOYED JACQUELYN FRANK'S WRITING AS MUCH AS CHRISTINE FEEHAN. I LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEXT BOOK IN THE SERIES.rough around the edges but worth reading I agree with other reviewers that this series has potential. Jacob was a compelling hero and the writer introduces us to other males who will likely have their own book later in the series. I also like the Nightwalker/Demon premise. There are so many paranormal books anymore, true originality is hard to find. This book is not grippingly original, but the ideas are sound and the writer does a nice job explaining the details of the Nightwalker world without sounding like an expository essay on the subject. My biggest complaint with the book is the heroine and her (supposedly) humorous comments. When the plot got compelling and the characters faced a tremendous problem (just when I am looking for that darkness that I find in, say, JR Ward's writing) the heroine would say something that sent her into giggles or that had the Demons suddenly laughing. This broke the mood for me and never allowed the men in this book to be as truly strong and sensual as they could have been. Still, I enjoyed the book and will read others in the series.
