An attractive young woman is driving her car on a dark country road and singing along to the radio. She's running out of gas and so she pulls into a gas station (run by a jittery, stuttering Brad Dourif), but then flees what seems to be an attack, only to find the real threat in her backseat: a hooded killer with an ax who takes her head off with a well-aimed swing. You've heard the story before? Not surprising, given that it's one of the more famous urban legends borrowed forUrban Legend, a post-Screamexercise in self-referential horror. The students at an ivy-covered New England college are turning up dead, the victims of a serial killer who murders in the fashion of the "apocryphal" modern myths. It's all for the benefit of good girl with a dark secret Alicia Witt, the sole witness to most of the killings. Doe-eyed Rebecca Gayheart, as her gullible best friend, and Jared Leto, the ambitious campus journalist who tracks down the secret that hangs over the school, lead a cast of pretty young women, hunky guys, and campus characters, notably the suspicious professor Robert Englund, a genre legend in his own right as the star of sevenNightmare on Elm Streetfilms. Take away the cheeky remarks and self-awareness and it's a throwback to the 1970s' rash of teen slasher movies, where sexually active teens are sliced, diced, and otherwise slaughtered in elaborate and ingenious ways. The increasingly preposterous film is noScream, but the modestly stylish production has its moments.--Sean Axmaker
a woman wearing a parka&wielding a hatchet...great! this movie is genius!a typical slasher flick where lazy teens are killed off one by one,but not a splatter film...wich is good! splatter films usually are overhumored, anyway the movie is about a young woman(dont know dont care)she stops by at this gas station run by a wacky oddball(brad dourif)aka chucky!cool huh?who else?scott macdonald, warwick davis, ken kirzwinger, besty palmer?anyway when she goes to get some spare change(if ya know what i mean)yep folks!an axe murder, done cut off her head'n'land out the window!so what, the ***** deserved it,so the next 'mornin'collage students hear the shocking news.a girl's head cut off.soon others find out shocking superstitions related to the previous murders!awsome movie! related movie:do you wanna know a secret?good movie to!
Poor Very Poor This film could and should have been so much better. The cast was poorly selected apart from Jared Leto who was okay, but hey everyone's got to start everywhere! So it's come to this a film that relies on a Josh Jackson cameo role (oh and Oceans 11 could have lived withour him)!Total Eclipse Of The Heart can't save UL Just saw UL2 today and while i was on the subject of reviewing that one, i might as well do this one some justice, or injustice since i don't remember liking it. Yes i seen UL years ago...whoopee doo. Ok let me say that the only thing i remember enjoying about this movie was the song 'total eclipse of the heart' (my fave song in the 80s) was playing in the beginning of the movie before victim number one (come on down) ended up being one of the many urban legend deaths to follow. I think that guy who starred in Dawson Creek who can't get katie holmes to fall in love with him happens to be in this movie too and he died an UL death...booyah!! I don't recall of any other stars in this movie but if they were REAL stars, they wouldn't do crappy slasher movies would they? I think this one has better eye candy then UL2 which is probably the main reason why people watch movies like this...to see eye candy victims die.
The song make this one a better movie then UL2 but not much better. Next please...
