Laughably unrealistic. Poorly done. There are already several excellent reviews that review the story, so I won't do that. I can only say that the characters were one-dimensional, the story frequently unbelievable, and yet predictable at the same time. I know little about the writing business, but I wondered if the second author actually wrote the book, with Patterson's name put on it so that it would sell a zillion copies. Of course I don't really know. I just know that if Patterson wrote like this in the beginning, he wouldn't have a bestseller now from anything with his name on it. Mediocre Sail is an example of an author lending his name to a collaboration that results in a mediocre and unsatifactory book that should be avoided. The plot is ludicrous, completely unbelievable and strained throughout. The characterization is less than one-dimensional and ultimately nonsense. This work is an insult to readers; based on this airport book, I will stay away from anything written by this author "and [fill in the name of the hack]." Zips along, but where is the meat of the story I read alot of mystery/thrillers, but this is my first, and probably last, James Patterson. The story moves fast with much drama and sensationalism, but I agree with other reviewers that it was lacking substance. It was one disaster after another for this family, but that is really all the book had to give. I'm very disappointed. I thought Patterson had to be one of the best, he has written so many books. Quantity does not equal quality. Watch your money sail away The only thing that will sail in this clunker is your money to the land of lost causes. I guess "Sail" sounded better as a title than "Motor boat" since the characters don't ever seem to get around to actually sailing. There was apparently no fact checking on flying, sailing, heart attacks, snakes on an island, wound care, infections, and the mysterious attraction between large tuna and soda bottles. Another author, who, like Stephen King is past his prime or hitting a dry spell and has now gone onto the list of "read the reviews by real people first before considering a purchase". Larry King wants him to write faster? If this book was written any faster it would have been put out on a Twitter. A Roller Coaster Ride Worth Waiting In Line For A good read for the male or female. Only Patterson could get away with the change of personality so quickly with a leading character. Lot's of twists & turns on every page.
