One of the best! I will not try to do a synopsis or summarize. I just want to say that this is one of the best series out there! It is cyberpunkish, paranormal and dark. I even got a few chuckles although I am not sure that is something Dante (main character) would have appreciated lol. These books are unique. I have read most a huge amount of paranormal fiction, things to do with angels/devil/necromancy etc and this is a one of a kind!
Note to the gentle reader, if you do not like to see characters that you like die...do not read muahahahaha. I give Saint Crow extra kudos for that. I get tired of authors putting their characters in harms way and NOBODY gets killed.
I give this series (of which I have read them all...and can not wait for the next one) two thumbs up!
slightly worse than average, disapointing If you are going to read this by all means read the first book [[ASIN:0316003131 Working for the Devil (Dante Valentine, Book 1)]] first. It established the characters and world.
I was disappointed with this book. In the first book Dante spends a lot of time agonizing over a monster from her past; in this book it gets more intense as she not so slowly looses it. Angst over her loss of her lover Japhrinel is causing her to neglect her friend Jace. Frankly Shakespeare, Tolstoy and Schiller do angst well, the author is not so great. The extras section is well done and saves this from a not recommended along with some good character writing.
Overall it is a little below average and only recommended if you really really like the first book. Buy this book!! Dante "Danny" Valentine is angry, confused, has a bad past (what bounty hunter doesn't?), obsesses about her dead lover, and deals with her problems and feelings by trying to avoid them. She's no Buffy, although she does have a run-in with some vampires. All in all, an intelligent, well-thought-out universe, a rip-roaring story, and just enough confusion about what is going on in this future history to make you work harder to understand the motivations and actions of the characters. I wish I had written it!
